Kernel Panic - Not Syncing!

Ok, I'm new to linux and coding. I need some real 'laymans term' help with trying to boot Linux ubuntu GNU 6.06 from livecd. I've searched and searched for help for about 2 hours but still nothing has worked. I burned the CD with ISO and booted from it and I get to the little menu where I can select what I want to do. (install and start, memory test, and whatnot) When I try the first option which is something like start and install, it loads the first 2 files then this message pops up, everytime...
"Uncompressing Linux...Ok, booting the kernel [17179569.684000] ..MP-BIOS Bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC! Kernal panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option."

I don't know what that means, or what to do! Is there anyone that could shed some light on this please?

P.S.: XP and Vista both suck
