Message: kernel panic-not syncing:no initrd found
Try passing init=option to kernel

Whats going on is I have a mand2005 installed on a hd that I've been using for about 3 months.
I just built a new box and used the hd and processor from my old box in the new.
When I turn it on I get the first screen where you choose to boot linux normal,safe mode,and another option.Sorry dont remember the other choice.

No matter what I choose to boot I get the kernel panic mssg above.Is this maybe a bios setting?When I plug the hd back in my old box everything boots fine?I'm not sure what other info you may need to help me with this one.

old box: msi k7n420 pro(red board) mobo,onboard vid&sound nvidia chipset
amd athlon xp 3000+
crucial 256mb DDR ram
ibm 80gb hd
new box:gigabyte rz series 7nf-rz mobo,onboard sound nvidia chipset
chaintech gforce 5200 agp card
corsair 512 x2 DDR ram
same cpu and hd

If you think a fresh install on the new box will cure this thats not a big problem.

It seems to me that you have a problem with your GRUB config file. Can you boot up that computer at all with that HD in? (Try using a live Linux CD such as KNOPPIX.) Boot up, mount the /boot/ (or /) partition if necessary, and then bost the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf or /etc/grub.conf, depending on which file your system has. In Gentoo it's /boot/grub/grub.conf; in SuSE it's /boot/grub/menu.lst. I'm not sure about Mandriva. When you post the results we'll go from there.

You might also want to check that the files/partitions mentioned in that file are present and readable (for root). Also, just for good measure, post the old HD's GRUB file.

I finally got all the bugs out of my new system.Being this is the first system I've built with a mobo that didnt have onboard sound and vid I didnt know about that little option in bios where you select display init. agp or pci.The default is pci.On first boot I would have a display on reboot I had no display.

Soooo after resetting cmos a few hundred times to get a display I finally figured this out.(thought you would get a laugh out of that)

Anyway I re-installed mandriva 2005le.
On my old mobo I had to use the generic nvidia drivers for sound and vid.
On this new box mandriva had the correct nvidia drivers for both!And I must say WOW what a difference.Everything is working beautifully.
