kernel panic


I just install mandrake 8.1 while the computer was in the process of rebooting, it display a message saying kernel panic.
this is the message.
<0>kernel panic:attempted to kill init! e2 03 23 04 95 co f6 26][<c0105000>]

the computer stop thr reboot process, so I have to reinstall the operating system again.

has anyone knows why the computer display kernel panic and please tell me what to do next time.

This kind of error usually happens if software was not properly downloaded. If the problem happens the second time, I think there was a transmission error during download or you've got a broken cd.
You can check downloaded files using md5sum.
md5sum filename
and you compare the result with a file you've downloaded with the program (they are usually in the same directory, md5sum file is called "MD5SUM")
