Question Kernel, Network Card, Sound, Mouse

Hi. I recently installed the LBA version of Linux obtained from SOT.

It installed in 5 easy steps and I was able to upload the 2 extra CD's provided. I have some problems though.

1.) I will be playing a game for instance and suddenly my mouse will go "ape". It opens windows and closes them and runs around all over the screen, and then all is back to normal.

2.) I also spend 3 hours yesterday trying to create a new user, like a guest (in Windows) but I don't know where to look.

3.) I came to a Kernel manager or something like that and it stated that there is a problem with the kernel and it is not functioning. Is this possible?? It is like windows telling me that windows is not functioning???

4.) I see there are just about a thousand versions of Linux, which ones are free and worth the while to download and use it? LBA - Linux looks good enough?

5.) I have a D-Link 10Mbps PCI Lan card installed in my P3 machine. When I installed Linux it detected my network card but it seems to be unable to activate this card? Maybe I'm doing it all wrong?

Thank you for this site. I will be back with many more questions.

Which book will be the best to teach me the basics of Linux?

Thank you!!!
TW

the best place to look is www.linux-tutorial.info!
also if you want to get a book i recommend o'reilly's running linux

mandrake is a good beginner linux.... or you might want to try redhat?

currently i am using SuSE though because i find their control panel (YaST) very useful.
