Since support for RH9 was dropped in 2004(?) your pool of people who have current experience with RH9 (or 2.4 kernels) is going to be pretty limited. After RH9 RedHat started counting over. The current version is RHEL 5.1 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) but requires you to pay for updates. Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. It is binary compatible with RHEL, has a five year support life, and is free to download/update.

Thank you for your reply.
In my project, I must use RedHat9.
Redhat9(kernel-2.4.20-8) can not be installed in the Intel Q35/G35 + ICH9 chipset board. So I want to update kernel from 2.4.20-8 to 2.4.36.4 and rebuild installation CD. Can kernel-2.4.36.4 support Intel Q35/G35 + ICH9 chipset board?

I guess I have already answered.

Why do you have to stick with RH9?
