Kernal panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs

Hi everbody,

I just finshed installing a new 80 gb hard drive and I set it it as the master and my older 30 gig hard drive as slave so that I could install Mandrake 10.0 on it and erase the older drive, but when I went to run the boot disk for the installation a black screen appear and after a bunch of stuff came up I got this error:

RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
invalid compressed format (err=1)
Kernal panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on ram3

Does anyone know how to fix this?

your kernel might not have support for whatever filesystem you put on your new hard drive. I got this message when i forgot to compile in reiserfs support to a new kernel. if you are able, recompile your kernel with whatever support it needs for your drive.
