Thumbs up KDE startup / system tray question

Hello all

A friend and I are discovering the joys of linux, she is because she's new to it, and i am, because i can't answer all the questions. This one though is different because i had previously researched it, without much luck.

How can we make programs minimize into the "system tray" like thing besides the clock in KDE 3.1. You know the one Klipper, KOrganizer and the KPPP connection status thing run through it.

How can we stop programs running in it?

And is there a way to define what software runs on KDE starup (say gkrellm) which of late doesn't like doing it anymore (on her system and mine, for me since i upgraded to Slackware 9.1 from 9.0, never for her).

Any pointers, hints etc would be appreachiated heaps.

Not working with Linux at the moment so from memory: right-click on an empty place on the task bar. You get a menu, select <new> (or some such), get a new menu with 5 (?) lines, select <make special> (or some such). Somewhere there it is done ... so have a few tries .

In terms of graphical programs - you can have them start after the desktop has loaded by simply creating a symlink from the application itself and put it in :

/home/your_username/.kde/Autostart

(for example)

ln -s /usr/bin/kspread /home/your_username/.kde/Autostart
