Ok I just installed java with j2re-1_4_2-linux-i586-rpm.bin . which seemed to be working out great these are the steps I followed.


# chmod 755 jre*-rpm.bin

# ./jre*-rpm.bin

# rpm -iv jre*rpm

# cd /usr/java/j2re*/plugin/i386/ns610/

# libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/


Ok now after these steps it says that all of my java plugins are working and active but when ever I try to open up a page with java in it it just completely closes out my mozilla browser HAVE NO idea what to do now I looked around for a good 30mins to see if anyone had similar problems but does not seem so I am pretty much a NEWB at Linux soo any help will be great

In the browser, try typing:

about:plugins

that will tell you what plugins are running correctly.


And on that last step you did, I dont think its right, it should be:

# ln -s libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
