java installation

Hi, I am having a problem with the java compiler on Ubuntu Linux ver 5.10.

After installing the application, i try to modify the .bash_profile, which is then initiated but the environment does not include the java path. It keeps on coming up with the path does not have a valid identifier.

the solution ...

hi ,
if i understanded rightly , the problem is that you can't successfully add the java to your PATH ...
if so , then try to creat a simpolic link to the folder contains the ( java , javac , javadoc ... ) i mean to the folder contains the executible files of java ...

how to do this ...?
well,type :
Code:
# man cp
and search for the simpolic link flag ( i quess it's -s )

and now creat this simpolic link in a folder which is already in your PATH , for sure . how do you find one like this ?? it's the one contains all of the commands you use like ( ls , cd , cp , man ... ) i quess it's /sur/bin .

that's it ,
i hope this helps ...

muhammad ,

Try this:

1. Configure $JAVA_HOME on /etc/profile:
JAVA_HOME=<path_to_java_directory>
PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
export PATH JAVA_HOME

2. You must configure your CLASSPATH;
