ISO download

I have downloaded
simply Mepis 3.1.1 as an iso. My trouble is burning this file to a cd as iso. It was downloaded as a rar file. How do you take the rar file, and burn as an iso file?
I am confused... Thanks

apt-get install unrar would probably be easier.

he said he DOWNLOADED the Mepis ISO...

this could have been done from Windows 98 for all we know...

EDIT: anyways, i just looked at his posting history and it looks like he's on Xandros:

Yes I am on xandros, but wanted to try mepis, I am doing the downloading on my windows XP machine. I hope to get to the point I can use linux for everything. I did downloade mepis, it is in a rar file. To use it to boot to the linux machine it needs to be in an iso format. I didn't know how to get it out of rar and burn as an iso. That is my question. How do I do it?

did you go to the website i posted?? http://www.rarlabs.com/

you can also go to download.com and find some file archive utility which is rar-compatible...

after you unrar the file you can burn the ISO using Nero or something like that...

Are you sure the Mepis iso is a rar file? Its quite rare for Linux isos to be compressed using rar. if you have any rar programs installed on windows, that can cause isos to be associated with the rar program, but you don't have to open them with rar. You have to burn them to a cd as an iso image.

you will have to forgive me. It seems that the cd drive isn't working, and the floppy drive either. Could be software problems but being new to linux I don't know where to check. I did however put the mother board cd in and got it to move after some presuading. The computer is a Microtel and mother board is asrock. Running the cd once, I got an error window, ascddml.dll, can't find dmi entry point. I being a newby don't know what that is. If i put a cd into the drive, it just sits there, if I open and close it then hit the unit it starts up, but usually doesn't give the right info.... If I had a canal behind my house it would go in there. I didn't get the mepis to install, still have xandros2.5. The box is useless without the cd drive and floppy working. Thanks for all the help...
