is aptitude install package >> logfile the best way?

I'm trying to make a log of packages I install, dependencies and a note to my self about what I'm doing but this seems a bit awkward.

thank you for your help, after a bit more research I settled on aptitude install packagename | tee install_log_filename
that way I don't have to switch between the log file and aptitude to answer questions.
