internet is connected but cannot browse internet?!?!?

ok i have a problem (redhat 8) i can sucessfully connect to my adsl to the internet and in the messages in the /var/log/ says it sucessfully connected. also i can view my website ( http://81.128.153.122 ) from a dial up IT Support London modem. but i cant browse the internet, if i type www.yahoo.com for eg it says cannot find www.yahoo.com as if i where not connected to the internet. i am just a bit confused why this is happening it worked fine for a few days until now i just restarted the adsl connected properly i went to internet browser and now i cant browse the internet, but i am connected as i can view my website from a dial up modem on my laptop if you go to http://81.128.153.122 you sould see a white page with 'THIS IS A TEST PAGE OF MIKES LINUX SERVER ' in text. please can someone advise what is going wrong, thanks allot
myk3

p.s. if i reinstall redhat and reconfigure the adsl it works fine as this problem happend to me befor but i reinstalled redhat 8 and it worked fine. it has happend again and i dont want to have to reinstall redhat every time it happens.

See if you can access yahoo.com using
http://216.109.118.71

If you can you probably need to add your ISP's DNS server in /etc/resolv.conf
it goes something like this:

nameserver <ip address>

or alternatively just setup a cache only bind server then point it to yourself.

Are you using a dynamic IP? If yes, your /etc/resolv.conf should have been created dynamically by dhclient .. otherwise (static IP), you need to add your ISP's dns server to /etc/resolv.conf. If you're following a HOW-TO to setup your adsl connection, take a look at it DNS section.

yes my isps dns is in there as well as the alternate. i was messing around with dns yesterday to get my website to respond to a dns instead of a horrible http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. is there any thing i may have changed that i might have forgot to change back, as far as i am aware i changed every thing back to what it was after i changed it. i have only had linux since friday and have never used it befor that i am a real newb but am picking it up fast.

thanks mike
