Installing XMMS player in Ubuntu

Quick question:

How do I install XMMS after downloading the install file from the website? I tried using the instructions where I type ./configure into the terminal but that did not work either.

Thanks in advance.

I get the following in terminal when I do sudo apt-get install xmms

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package xmms is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package xmms has no installation candidate

Go to synaptic - update the repositories - then do a search for xmms.
