Exclamation Installing UBUNTU 8.10

This is my first time installing Linux and when I try to install it, I cannot access my Hard Drive and I receive a message that there are errors on some sectors. I think my hard drive is bad, but I just want to be sure before I buy a new one. Does anyone have some suggestions?

I'm a big fan of MHDD personally, download it (http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/), burn to a CD, boot from it. Saying that, what exactly is th error message?
