Make sure you edit the /etc/sources.list file to include/exclude what you want....stable testing unstable experimental.
then...
apt-get update

apt-get install dist-upgrade(to upgrade system)
apt-get upgrade (to upgrade all installed apps)

to install say "gaim"
apt-get install gaim

simple

Installing programs

I'm struggling with BitDefender.

I'm very, very new to Ubuntu and Linux in general.

I used Mandrake 8.0 three years ago but only played bomberman.

I'm too used to the Windows GUI and clicking on everything.

I'm just trying to figure out how to get a more graphical/user friendly BitDefender for scanning for viruses.

I managed to uncompress the files to /opt/bdc but I have no idea what to do from here.

I ran bdc executable, and it gives me a list of commands to use with BitDefender, but I have no idea how to scan the whole system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
