Installing drivers on Knoppix

I'd like to install drivers for my VC and NIC, I'm thinking I have to write it to hard disk somewhere for it to stay on Knoppix, correct?

i don't know if you can virtually install drivers and then keep them unless you install knoppix onto the harddrive itself

there may also be missing libraries (i've tried drivers on knoppix before, no luck)
