installing ethernet drivers for knoppix

hello.

If knoppix dosn't detect an ethernet card is it case of just
modprobing the correct module,(once i find out what it is) assuming that a module is there of course.

What if it isn't?

The machine being used is a windows lap top.

Could I save the linux drivers if need be to the hard drive in windows and then just mount the windows partition once i boot to the cd ?

I guess i'll just mount /dev/hda right ??

thnks 4 your patience.

May I assume that you do not want to do a permanent Linux install on this Laptop? -- You just want to occasionally run GNU/Linux w/ minimal impact on your "Winders" installation.

Suggestion: Try SimplyMEPIS 3.3.1-1, it has a Traveller (sic) disk feature that allows to carry all the config. etc. info. for Linux on a thumb drive.

If you find a solution, modprobe or other, in Knoppix, then you can save it & the config. info. the the HD. You just have to sure you have a FAT32 partition to save it to.

As long as you can afford it & have enough RAM, it sounds like a great solution, especially at work.

For those of us w/ the opposite problem, I am hoping Xen will call up whatever "Winders" one needs to look at from w/in a good stable GNU/Linux box. Sure would put an easy fix on the BSOD.

i keep meaning to spend some time reading it.
