Installing cd-writer on Suse 7.3

I'm getting nowhere trying to install my cd-writer on Suse 7.3. It seems that I'm doing something wrong when it comes to the scsi emulation.

In rc.config I have this entry:
INITRD_MODULES="hdc=ide-scsi"

In lilo.conf (I still boot from a floppy ...) the append line contains and entry "hdc=ide-scsi", according to yast1

When I start xcdroast, I get the following message:
Failed to scan the SCSI-bus. Either no permission to access the generic SCSI devices or no SCSI support enabled in the kernel. For ATAPI devices you have to install the SCSI emulation first.

I've got an HP cd-writer 9500 series. I've checked out the unofficial Suse faq (http://susefaq.sourceforge.net), "Burning CD's under Linux (especially for SuSE 7.x)" (http://seismo.ethz.ch/linux/xcdroast.html).

I think I'm missing something really basic. If anybody can give advice, it'd be most appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

You have to add:

/sbin/modprobe ide-scsi

in /etc/init.d/boot.local
