Post Installing

Hmm 2nd post today im very new to this system. My bro got this and to install some programs you have to go into the terminal and give it the command right? Well this Guide i got here isn't helping me to well with that, I was wondering, how does that work for a tar or gz file. I don't any of the commands to install, If you can link me to some how-to sites or just explain it , it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Then use google, or those man pages I've yet to have the pleasure of meeting, or reread the guide.

Honestly do you want to be messing with linux if you aren't sure about even things like "you have to go into the terminal and give it the command right?". Well maybe you just need to get used to that idea?
