Install/Uninstall issues - first kick at the can

Install Issue #1
--------------------
I've chosen to install Netscape 7.1, but for some reason I don't have an icon on my 'start' menu. I know it's installed because I can launch it manually from my /usr/local/Netscape directory.

I've also tried adding an icon manually but I get an error message about my hdd being read only...

Install Issue #2
--------------------
How do I uninstall packages? Not everything in my program list is actually available in the add/remove program control panel.

For what it's worth, I have been reading documentation as much as possible, but now I've finally installed Red Hat and I just want to start using the damn thing!

(Please help)

Couple questions: Did you install using an rpm or did you install from source? Have you tried adding the icon as root?

As for the uninstallation issue, in a console typing 'rpm -e program name' should uninstall whatever program you want. However it's a good idea to only uninstall the program if you're absolutely sure you're not going to use and no other program depends on it. If you need to see what programs you have installed, again in a console type 'rpm -qa'. I hope this helps; I don't use Red Hat and it has been a while since I've used rpms but I think that's how to do it. If not you can always type 'man rpm' in a console and learn all about rpms.
