Slack uninstall and startup issues

How do you uninstall Slackware packages?

How do you set it up to run either X or kdm or gdm at start-up (from either runlevel 3 or 4)? How do I log in automatically into a user name (not necessarily root) at startup? Please be explicit.

Why can't I raise a text console (the Ctrl-Alt-Fx keys) at times when X or the desktop environment crashed?

In KDE, how do I make K-mix start at start-up?

Also for KDE, how do I remove applications from the start bar or the sys tray, without halting them (make them run in the background, but still accessible). (needed, but not limited to running XMMS into the sys tray)

Can I make XMMS scroll down the play list from the mouse wheel? (an old Windows habit )

What is the bash equivalent for the following MS-DOS batch command:
ren *.abc *.xyz

I want to change the extension of all abc files into xyz.

note: mv *.abc *.xyz fails

You might start here, and then come back with unanswered questions:

I already searched the documentations for those. If you do have specific answers please post them.

The LQ Rules that you agreed to specifically state "Do not expect LQ members to do your homework - you will learn much more by doing it yourself." Now why would I break Jeremy's rules, when you can obviously read English? Your first two questions are answered in the link I gave you...I'm NOT doing your homework, and not reading any more of your thread unless you read the Slackbook, search LQ, and search Google first and do something for yourself. Here's another link to help you...

It's not a homework, these are a few issues I have not been able to resolve. Cut a beginner user some Slack

Do I have to run the gauntlet, do I have to wear a funny little hat and stand in a leg shouting: "I am an idiot!"?

You simply need to grow up and be responsible.

To use ur mouse to scroll add this to ur "xorg.conf file" in your /etc/x11/xorg.conf
under the:::
Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"

Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
End

For your graphical logon edit ur "/etc/inittab.conf" file change
# Default runlevel.
id:3:initdefault:
Change it to "4"

To auto logon with username Not as (root) in kde Control Module
Click on " Enable Password-Less Logins" the click on the user you want to use
to login without typing the password.. But i dont advice this !!!!!

For kmix jus go to the kde menu----> MutliMedia----->kmix
after you click on kmix it should startup everytime you use kde desktop.

Good Luck!!

Well, Navaboy, that kind of info is what we get all over Google.

As for Aphex_Twin2, I know you're a newbie. I'm one too. But sometimes we can get most of our questions answered just by googling it. At least that will help us grow and eventually shake off this newbie status
