I'm having serious problems with my CD-ROM under Mandrake 10.0. Eery minute or so it tries to read the CD-ROM - whether or not there's a CD in it - fails dismally, and locks up for up to 10 seconds while it's doing so.
I've tried following advice in another thread (sorry, can't post a link as the forum thinks I'm a spammer!) about a very similar problem to fiddle with the PCI boot options (as per dmesg: "PCI: if you experience problems, try using option 'pci=noacpi' or even 'acpi=off'"), but it did not resolve this.
Can anyone help? My box is almost unusable at the moment...

Oh well, I fiddled about with a few more things last night and got nowhere, so I reinstalled Mandrake from CD and that's cured the problem.
Its just occurred to me that the problem got much worse after I recently had to reinstall the drakxtools package - including harddrake - so maybe that exacerbate it. Anyway, it's sorted now - thanks anyway.
