The order of partitions isn't vital.

I'm slightly surprised you chose reiserfs, the developer is in some trouble, and I don't think it is quite "finished", or even still under development. I just use ext3. But you are free to do as you please.

5.8G may be enough for /

Do a df -h to see how much room you have left on /

How much extra stuff do you see yourself installing? It is best to get this "right" from the start, so you don't have to come back and ask "How to I increase by / partition?" (Many threads on this one!)
Otherwise, whatever you are happy with is OK.

Hi Tredegar, thanks.
/df -h gives me:
/dev/sda1 Size 7.6G used 1.9G avail 5.3G, (27% used)
/dev/sda3 Size 29G used 33M avail 29G ( 1% used )

so it looks like I miss-read the size of the /dev/sda part.

I just used reiserfs because that's what was on before, anyway, I think I have plenty of room on both partitions. I just do light office work and have some photos on disk. I managed to copy all my files over on two x 100Mb zip disks.

Again, thanks for staying with me on this, you've been a Brick.

.. and don't forget to back up your data !
