How to work on cygwin


Frieds,

As one of our friends told, I have downloaded and installed the CYGWIN on my winows xp pc, to learn and practice linux commands.

when the icon of it is double clicked, its screen as appearing as below:

System1@system ~
$
MY DOUBT IS :

I could make a directory with command like mkdir. But after that it is not allowing commands like touch, vi, vim etc.
How i have to write data or a file in it.

Still anything to do after installing CYGWIN.
Waht to do ?
Pl guide me

try again installing cygwin installer it has packages to choose ...
I have also cygwin it works just fine vim,touch etc,,,
remember these are the packages you have to download it manually by selection during installation..
Don't do just next - next ...

You need to be more specific. Define "it is not allowing commands". What EXACTLY are you typing in and what EXACTLY are you getting back?

You will have to install the softwares using cygwin's online installer. Goto to the main cygwin site for details.
The softwares may be of several hunderd MB so be careful to choose just waht you need.
