How to work on cygwin

As one of our friends told, I have downloaded and installed the CYGWIN on my winows xp pc, to learn and practice linux commands.

when the icon of it is double clicked, its screen as appearing as below:

System1@system ~

I could make a directory with command like mkdir. But after that it is not allowing commands like touch, vi, vim etc.
How i have to write data or a file in it.

Still anything to do after installing CYGWIN.
Waht to do ?
Pl guide me

You need to be more specific. Define "it is not allowing commands". What EXACTLY are you typing in and what EXACTLY are you getting back?

You will have to install the softwares using cygwin's online installer. Goto to the main cygwin site for details.
The softwares may be of several hunderd MB so be careful to choose just waht you need.
