Question Trouble running Yahoo messenger

Im using redhat 9 and opera browser. i have installed yahoo messenger and tried running it. But after entering username and password, it keeps on connecting and doesnt give any error. Im using proxies , i have entered it. I donno wats the real problem. i even searched in ymessenger help, buit it doesnt work. I couldn check whether my proxy settigns are correct. I gave the http port as 80 and also 8080. But nothing works. Will opera browser support this? im using gnome, will it work with KDE?

You need to get the very latest version of gaim because the protocols may have changed if you are using an old one.

As a newbie, i use kopete and its idiot proof. I have no problems what so ever, and i can use all the protocols (aim, msn, yahoo,etc...) just fine. I have used Gaim, and its great, but i perfer kopete.
