How to quit out of KDE gui?

I got MEPIS linux up and running, and now I want to install the nvidia drivers. It says I need to quit out of the KDE gui and do it from the command line. It won't work in Konsole. How do I exit the KDE gui to get to the command line?

One option is to modify your /etc/inittab (if you have it)(and restart) to enter as command prompt instead of graphical.

Other option is to switch console (CTRL+ALT+F2) and kill the x process.

I'm sure there is other way to do it, but this is what I have for now.

You have to open up, and edit a file called inittab in /etc and set the default runlevel to, I think 1, then reboot and you will be at a command line, then you can install the drivers. After, you then do the reverse so kde will start up again.
Someone please correct me if I misstated anything.

You might also be able to do a console log-in though KDM.

Better than editing config files as per the users above, just open your console and change to root and 'init 3' to go to command(text) mode.
Code:
#su
Password:
#init 3
Note: It might be 'telinit' on some systems.
