Question How to get xterm color.

In Xwindow, how can I get xterm to display like it does in text-only console, with colour-coded to define files, directories, symbolic links, binaries, and such? I find it difficult to use having only monotone "objects", I just don't know which is which. I've added -rv switch (xterm -rv) IIRC to invert the colour (white text on black background), that helps alot but still no colour.

Try the -ls option and check the manpage for more info. I think that should work . It won't read your profile otherwise (nor the system-wide one, /etc/DIRCOLORS etc. iirc).
