[xterm] no color

I'm running Slamd64 with an xterm version 205

Code:
[warder@workgroup ~]$ xterm -version
X.Org 6.8.2(205)

For some reason there is absolutely no color in xterm. There is in aterm, and through Opera all the colors are perfectly clear and distinct. But for some reason there is only black and white in xterm. I know this because whenever I run irssi its all black and white (instead of the default blue - which can be seen with aterm).

Any pointers? Thanks.

Try to create a file named .Xdefaults in your home directory with the line
Code:
XTerm*termName: xterm-color
in it (maybe you need to restart X). This helped me a few times when my vim wasn't colored.
