How to change font color and size in RHEL5?

How to change the foreground and background text color in /dev/ttyX as well as /dev/pts/X.

I tried setterm -background green -foreground black -store, but this works only for a particular session. How do I make it permanent?
2.I also tried xterm -bg green -fg black from /dev/ptx/X(terminal window), but again, it opens a new terminal window, does correctly, but again, this is only for that session. How to make this permanent.
3.How to change font sizes...??
