The instructions you gave for the partition worked well,
and later I was able to update FSTAB to make the files available to Gnome.
Thanks again! I also got Porthole up and running. This wasn't too bad:
I downloaded a 2k textfile called an 'Ebuild'. The Ebuild just tells EMERGE how to install things. Since Porthole is already in the portage tree, all you have to do basically is 'emerge -av porthole':
Porthole is a MASKED package: to emerge (when masked) the exact entry in
/etc/portage/package.keywords should be:
Code:
pp-portage/porthole -x86
(for an IBM PC clone).
Because Porthole is not already in portage, I had to add an entry in
/etc/make.conf like this:
Code:
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage"
...and then put the Ebuild file in that folder. Then I just emerged normally:
Code:
emerge -av porthole <enter>
and say 'yes' to the merge question.
Porthole then automatically appears on the Gnome menu in a few minutes.
