If your setup is ADSL modem --> router --> computer, then you should be able to obtain a DHCP address from your router; configure /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and /etc/resolv.conf as above.
If that doesn't work, then your router may not be connecting with your ADSL modem.
If your setup is ADSL modem --> computer (no router), then you need to be using the adsl-connect toolkit. Do 'man adsl-connect' for help.
I'm not sure, you might have tried this as I only skimmed over the posts, but my friend had the same problem. Run netconfig like everyone says, enter the hostname you want and then when it asks for domain, type 'localdomain' without the '' and choose DHCP like everyone else is saying. We figured this out after trying to use PPPoE for about 2 weeks.
Since he says Slackware 9.1 at top, just thought i would point out a BIG jump in the scripts... rc.inet1 now gets set with lots of goodies in rc.inet1.conf.
I'm having trouble with connecting to the internet too. My ISP says that they don't support Linux and that they told me to just configure DHCP but I can't even get that working. I tried editing the rc.inet1.conf file but nothing changed along with the resolv.conf file. I tried ifconfig and it works, but ifconfig eth0 doesn't detect an interface. Confusing and frustrating. My head hurts from banging it on the table. If I can possibly get some feed-back on this connection problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! in advance.
