Help to Sendmail newbie

Hi to all,

I want to install and configure sendmail on my RH linux 6.1 by sendmail.8.12.9.tar file. I have already installed linux as server mode. And it is running sendmail by default. when I telnet my linux box on port 25 it gives response 220 localhost.localdomain ESMTP Sendmail 8.9.3/8.9.3

Here I want to install sendmail from start level, tell me how can I remove currently running sendmail? How can I compile sendmail? how can I install sendmail after compilation? What is m4? Should I configure sendmail.mc or sendmail.cf?

Please help me with detail thanks in advance.

Hi

Net over to http://www.sendmail.org - most, if not all of your questions are fully answered there if I remember correctly.

Just wondering, ever considered postfix? A lot simpler to setup and administer.

sendmail.mc would be a better way to configure sendmail.
m4 is used to convert the .mc file into a .cf file.

To remove sendmail

#rpm -e sendmail

from a terminal window.
