I use Kubuntu but it uses apt as well for package management.

You have to quit synaptic editing sources.list, then, you can try to edit the file manually:

sudo pico /etc/apt/sources.list

and uncomment the multiverse and universe. btw, you sure have to be online to "download" repositories...

hope this helps

Sorry to contradict - you tried to execute "sudo pppoeconf".

BTW, pppoeconf is the right program to connect via a DSL connection.
Do you have an AOL DSL connection, or is it a 56k or 128k modem connection?

Need to contradict again - that's not what "it" told.

Got it? Describing your environment exactly and posting (error) messages wordly (if possible) is crucial to the success of your efforts.

Thanks

I don't know much about AOL, sorry. But I guess you could use normal dialup, you'd just have to get the data. However, I can't help you on that one.

The notice you got wasn't an error, just an advice (and a necessary one, at that). But you'd have to go online to update your sources.list, that's true. As long as you don't know what dialup settings to use (number, access information), you can't do it, though.

You generally can't expect things to work if you don't set them up the right way in the first place...
