I am new to linux and am running a copy of suse 10.1, so far installing programs and games using yast control is the only method I have used I downloaded Ktorrent as a tar file tried decrompressing from the command line and got error messages in return, if i right click and unpack it the desktop, I can not find it from the command line to install it, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

How about you tell us what error message you got and what command you used to try unpacking the ktorrent file, also tell us what the full name of this ktorrent file is.
If you unpacked it onto your user's desktop and the user's name is "mo", change directory to the desktop and list all items with these two commands:
If you unpacked it to the desktop you should be able to double click on it and read the "README" to find how to install it. Change directory into it's folder on the desktop to issue installation commands.

Ok I have found/moved to the ktorrent dir. I type (./configure) all seems to go well and then I get error message at the end.... any helpful hints, what am i missing? do i need to configure x window and if so how...thanks in advance for any input..
