Hang on partition check

ok guys... i have managed to install red hat 7.3 and have a good look around for a couple of days..... however this morning when i booted into linux from grub... during the partition check the system hangs...... i can still re boot into win xp

I have removed all linux partitions and tried to install again... the same problem occurs... during the partition check the system hangs

any advice would go a loooong way

cheers

The only thing I can suggest would be to boot up "linux rescue" from the redhat cd, and run "e2fsck /dev/hdxx" on your linux partition (replace xx by a1, b2, a3, or whatever you have it on). That'll check if there are any bad blocks on your drive.

that's too bad... I was under the impression that "linux rescue" booted up an o.s. from the cd, and didn't mount the partitions :-(

Maybe you could get/make a boot disk w/ e2fsck on it and do this? check out "tomsrbt" (spelling might not be correct) It is "the most linux you can fit on a disk" or something like that :-)

but then again, somebody else might know how to fix it w/ out all this
