Hang on partition check
ok guys... i have managed to install red hat 7.3 and have a good look around for a couple of days..... however this morning when i booted into linux from grub... during the partition check the system hangs...... i can still re boot into win xp
I have removed all linux partitions and tried to install again... the same problem occurs... during the partition check the system hangs any advice would go a loooong way cheers:) |
The only thing I can suggest would be to boot up "linux rescue" from the redhat cd, and run "e2fsck /dev/hdxx" on your linux partition (replace xx by a1, b2, a3, or whatever you have it on). That'll check if there are any bad blocks on your drive.

yeah... tried linux rescue but can't get into in... coz the partition check thing... iv checked the drive in winxp finding no errors…..

that's too bad... I was under the impression that "linux rescue" booted up an o.s. from the cd, and didn't mount the partitions :-(
Maybe you could get/make a boot disk w/ e2fsck on it and do this? check out "tomsrbt" (spelling might not be correct) It is "the most linux you can fit on a disk" or something like that :-) but then again, somebody else might know how to fix it w/ out all this |
