half life, does it work


does half life work with linux, i know about WineX, but i want something that is free to use, cause im poor

Yes, of course it does. As for winex, it is free via cvs. This means you have to compile it, but it does work.

how hard is it to compile?

does that take any major linux skill cause i dont have any


im still learnin but im gettin there

Well, you could do it. I've seen the greenest n00bs come on here and get wineX to compile, and set it up first time around without a hitch. But I've tried and failed several times.

I think it has a lot to do with your distro, what you do on your box, and what you've got installed that determines how hard it is. Most of the time I see things are based off of Mandrake, Redhat, Suse or Gentoo so if you are using one of those you'll probably have a bit of an easier time getting it running

Its working fine under normal wine on mdk 9.1 for me. Dont use mandrake's RPM though as it doesnt have opengl support and for some reason is broke for things like wineconsole !
