GUI program to verify readability of CDs/DVDs

Hi there,

I'm looking for a GUI program which will read and verify all data on CDs (audio and data) and DVDs (video and data). Recovery functionality would be a bonus.

I thought that I had hit gold with dvdisaster's Scan feature, but it tells me that it can't scan audio CDs.

Many thanks in advance.

Just a quick note that, laying aside my preference for a GUI solution, I've just tried the command line cdck - it too can't cope with scanning and checking an audio CD, as confirmed here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=697655

In the end, I decided to throw my desire for a GUI solution away and go with a multi-pronged attack:

. cdck - check optical media (exc. audio CDs)

. safecopy - recovery of as much data as possible from optical media

. CDCheck under Wine - (fallback) check/recover optical media inc. audio CDs

one of the best tools would be your default desktop environment

just pop in the disk -- simple

kde/gnome/xfce/e17/??? will ALL auto read the disk and ask you what to do with it.
as in
open it in the the desktop manager ( dolphin/nautilus/???) or a music/video program

Many thanks John, but purely out of interest, what has your reply got to do with the verification of an optical disk's data (by means e.g. of timing data and multiple re-reads) and the recovery of data from a corrupted/damaged optical disk?

:-) The problem with audio CDs is that they don't have recovery designed in. If the driver doesn't detect hardware failures... it is assumed the data is valid (which it doesn't have to be). DVDs/data disks on the other hand have extra checksums included....
