Greylisting delay too long

Can anyone help me please? I have a mail server (Ubuntu 11.10) running exim4 as the MTA and employing greylisting. Everything is running fine but I'm becoming increasingly convinced that /etc/greylistd/config isn't being read (or at least acted upon) as although I have retryMin set down at 5 minutes, the real world seems to indicate that it's the greylistd default of 1 hour. I'm wondering if it's a file permissions problem.
They're as below

ls -la
total 32
drwxr-xr-x 2 greylist greylist 4096 2012-02-05 15:34 .
drwxr-xr-x 120 root root 12288 2012-02-04 22:55 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 greylist greylist 2231 2012-02-05 14:13 config
-rw-r--r-- 1 greylist greylist 8409 2012-02-03 21:58 whitelist-hosts

I'd very much appreciate it if anyone can shed any light on the problem.

How did you get the real world to talk to you? I have some questions I'd like to have answered, can I get you to ask them for me?

Senders don't always come back when you tell them to. You can only make suggestions to them. I hope your greylister will whitelist the ones that do so there's no more waiting after the first time.

I've given up with greylistd and implemented a solution using MySQL This one...http://johannes.sipsolutions.net/Projects/exim-greylist

It works well on my server.
