gnome-session doesn't work at start up on Centos 5.2

Greetings all

I hope this is the correct forum to ask this if not I am sorry.
I will try to be as accurate as possible.
I got a hunch what triggered the warning but I am unable to replicate it nor troubleshoot it with result.

I am experience a rather annoying problem since yesterday.
The problems started when I was working with sabayon user profiles and gconf-editor

I was practicing with setting user restriction for freenx users on my server.
I made a test profile and applied it on 2 users.
However when I restarted the server I suddenly got the following error message.
Quote:
Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you
have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe
sessions to see if you can fix this problem

/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running /usr/bin/sessreg -a -u /var/run/utmp -x “/var/gdm/:0.Xservers”
-h “ “ -l “:0” “underscorex3”

localuser:underscorex3 being added to access control list
No profile for user 'underscorex3' found
No profile for user 'underscorex3' found

(gnome-session:8913): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
After this I tried to login with another user who did not have any restrictions.
The result was the same message with off course a different username.
Logging in with root didn't work out either.
I am sure it is not a diskspace issue since nothing is filled above 20%

As suggested in the warning message I tried to login with failsafe.
This worked and I was able to manually start the interface with exec gnome-session.

The next step was to try to edit the sabayon profile however this time the screen would close with a new error.
Quote:
/sbin/restorecon: error while labeling files under
usermod: warning: unable to relabel the homedir for sabayon.
FreeFontPath: FPE "unix/:7100" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
The application '-c' lost its connection to the display :1.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.
I have unset the gnome session but this didn't solve the error I have tried google and it came up with reinstalling libcairo but I never had this file it seems.

I'm able to do anything on the server except sabayon.
So my next idea was to remove sabayon as user and group, clear the tmp file, use yum to reinstall sabayon and restart.
This didn't fix anything either.
Resetting permissions on /tmp /etc /home didn't help either

My last step since than was to reinstall gnome-desktop and gnome-
session but this did not help also.

I am probably looking to deep into this and the solution is next to my doorstep however I am unable to find it.
I hope someone can help me with this problem and if possible explain why it happened and how I can avoid it in the future.

Thank you in advance
