Start a GNOME session in Cygwin

I've been playing with Cygwin as part of my big transition from Windows to Linux. I downloaded the entire Gnome package through the setup executable, but I can't seem to start a session for it.

I figure that I probably need to initialize X and pass in some argument, but I can't find the proper argument to pass in. Any advice?

BTW: I can use wmaker, so I know graphics work to some degree.

For the GUI, you'll probably have less trouble experimenting with Linux in a Qemu environment than with Cygwin.

I've already tried using QEMU. It worked, and now I want to learn some new tools.

I figure all I need is the window manager to get things started. I don't think I'd need the gdm... but it's possible I might have to use it first. I just can't figure out how to initialize it.
