a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

What does this translate into?
Hi I had the same problem when trying to compile gpsdrive 2.1. After installing the gtk2-devel and gtk+-devel rpms the relevent .pc files appeared in /usr/lib/pkgconfig and then it compiled without any errors. I hope that helps if you havent already sorted it out.
I got the same problems with not having the .pc files. I tried to figure out what could cause the problems. I am running an unstable Debian version and when I installed the devel libraries of the libraries the .pc files were made in the /usr/lib/pkgconfig directory
Maybe that can help other people with the same problem
