Angry [GLIB] Problems Installing GLIB

Hi,

I' m new to Linux, and I just installed Mandrake 10.0.
I wanted to Install XMMS, because I Heard it is much alike Winamp.
So I Went to ***.gtk.org(i wasn' t allowed to type an url) , and downloaded GLIB 2.5.2 and GTK 2.5.2.

But when I do the ./configure stuff for GTK, it says it can' t find the appropriate GLIB, and that I should check mij glib_config :?. Here some related logs/text:

--------------------------------
The actual error when ./configure:

checking for some Win32 platform... no
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for strerror in -lcposix... no
checking for gcc option to accept ANSI C... none needed
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... (cached) yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for glib-2.0 >= 2.5.2 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.5.1... Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'glib-2.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.5.2 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.5.1) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
[root@Stijn gtk+-2.5.2]#

--------------------------------

Does anyone know, what the PKG_CONFIG_PATH should be ? I did the ./config and make stuff for glib from /root/glib-2.5.2, and GTK+ is in /root/GTK+-2.5.2

Thnx

After some hard work :P

my error changed to this :

checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... (cached) yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for glib-2.0 >= 2.5.2 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.5.1... Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.

I searched for the glib-2.0.pc thingie, found it , put the path towards the directory thats in , NOTHING, still this error

Glib-2.5 and gtk-2.5 are the development series of gtk and glib. They are unstable and can't be used by mere mortals like you or I. The stable series is 2.4 (even numbers are stable, odd numbers are for development). Xmms doesn't link against gtk2, it is an ugly old application that still uses gtk1 so you need gtk-1.2.10 and glib-1.2.10. (I don't install it for it's looks, I install it because it sounds fantastic and is totally reliable). However, why go to the trouble of installing the shared libraries and compiling it from source when you can install it of your Mandrake CD's with a few clicks in the Mandrake Control Centre?
