A flickering screen is frequently an indication of an incorrect refresh setting. Run the Screen Resolution tool from the System Preferences menu, and set the refresh to 60. Restart X (logout, ctrl-alt-backspace), and see if the problem stops.

check the resolution and refresh rate on your monitor, thatll most likely be the problem. what video card do you have? did you install the appropriate driver?

if you dont have sufficient answers for these just post the output of the following commands (you may have to 'sudo'/be root to run them): cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf; lsmod; lspci.

please post the output in code tags

To get to the resolution tool you go to the control center, and then to peripherals and then to display. All the options should be right there.

Good Luck!
