What happened when you try to start x what error do you get?
Try going into /etc/X11/xorg.conf using vi or nano
# su
# vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
You must be Root (#su) to edit the xorg.conf file, edit I think section Monitor and maybe Screen. Use your monitors literature to find out what settings you need to use.\
Edit: If that doesn't work go to nvidia.com and download the latest nvidia driver. I belive there's installation instructions on the download page. Just type sh NVIDIA-driver-<Version>.run
Edit2: vi( i to insert text, then esc + :wq to save file and exit vi)
nano (not sure use # man nano to see its features)
