FC5 restart httpd stops mysql

I recently purchased a dedicated server with Fedora Core 5 and PHP 5 installed.

I proceded to edit php.ini and set global_variables on and error-display to on, while I develope some code but after issuing a 'service httpd restart' phpinfo showed 'without-mysql'.

After trying several things I opted for a rebuild to get the server back to it's original state.

Once rebuilt phpinfo shows 'with-mysql' but I need to edit the php.ini and am a little confused why a restart would not reload all the modules.

Am I missing something? I am new to linux and am struggling a little in this environment.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

From the information given, I'm going to assume that the modules were statically compiled into apache and not built as DSO's.

You should be able to check this with httpd -l

If you see your php module listed, it's compiled statically.

I'm making a LOT of assumptions here, since you didn not include your apache version (I'm assuming 2.x.x).

Thanks for the response,

httpd -l returns

Compiled in modules:
core.c
prefork.c
http_core.c
mod_so.c

Do you know a quick way to install php-mysql, phpinfo is showing without-mysql and I desperately need it installed.

Have tried countless installs from forums without success.

Thanks again for your help.
