external modems


i have installed mandrake 10 and have a connexant hsf usb v-92 data/fax modem, i downloaded a temp driver, but can't seem to get it configured using kpp. i'm in the uk so should i be using pap or chap.....newbe so thank full of any help.....

You need to provide more information. What happens when you install the driver: are there any error messages? What happens when you try to dial up with kppp? What device ("/dev/whatever") is kppp configured to use?

Suggest you post the output of "lsmod" to see if the modem driver is actually loaded.

Set the authentication setting to PAP/CHAP in the kppp dialog.

download the scanmodem utility from linmodems.org
and get all the information about ur modem which might help u and us in solving ur problems better
