error: Autoconf 2.58 or better is required.


Hi all.

I'm trying to install the new version of autoconf and automake
first i'd installed autoconf version 2.8 under SU
then i tryed to install the automake (version 1.9) but got the error information

error: Autoconf 2.58 or better is required

i found an observation, when i als SU and try to excute
autoconf --version
got Version Info:2.7
but when i als normal user, then got i Version Info. 2.8

can someone tell me why it happed and what to do, i must install automake under SU!

What distro? And what is i als???

Sorry ...................'Als' should be as in Germany
I use a SuSE 8.2, KDE 3.1.1
