download folder


I loaded ubuntu 10.04 and now lost the download section under places...how do I get it back?

you downloaded ubuntu using what OS? on what folder it was saved?

Assuming you are using Gnome and by "loaded" you mean that you installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a computer, start Nautilus (or go to Places-->Computer-->/home/[username]) and look around in your file system.

I don't think that /home/[username]/download is a default directory. /home/[username]/Music and (I think) /home/[username]/Photos might be (and for my purposes absolutely useless--I delete them), but if you had a /download directory in a previous incarnation, it was created by you or by some application.

If my assumptions are wrong, please give us more detail about exactly what you did. The more details you give, the better we can help you.

Open a folder, any folder, and click "Bookmarks", and then "Edit Bookmarks". If it is not listed in there, just manually browse to the Downloads folder, then add it as a bookmark and name it as you wish.

You probably need to tell your browser (or whatever program you are using to download) to put the downloads in there.

firefox shows it ok /home/garth/Downloads

Thanks....got it working now....love this linux...switched all 4 computers ot it from WINDOZ
