does installing linux effect the bios?

i had a 30G drive... Mandrake 10.0 working perfectly..

decided to take it out and put in a 40G spare i had...

i tried installing windows 98se first on the 30G drive after fdisking and formatting... it got to 10% then stopped...

i tried it with the 40Gdrive...many times.. fdisk, format.. etc...
still sort of froze/slowed WAY down at 10% or so..

so i just got frustrated, reset the cmos jumper.. and now its working fine on both hard drives.... i never had this problem before installing mandrake 10.0... does it do something?

Hmm.. No.

It's maybe an error or a bug with fdisk

Im not sure if I understand correctly, but have your tried: fdisk /mbr? Mbr will delte the master boot record. Everything on the disk will go!
